I adopted a cat from Animal Ark

Kitty 1

I have a new member of my family! I adopted a kitty from Animal Ark this past weekend. She is cuddly and very sweet.

Animal Ark is a no-kill shelter located in Hastings. What makes this shelter special is the homelike atmosphere for the animals. When I went to visit, it was nice to see the natural light and comfy quarters for each of the cats. Although, the shelter is small it does amazing things.

When I adopted my cat I felt good knowing that if anything horrible were to happen to me I would be able to bring my cat back to Animal Ark and they would find her a new home and not put her to sleep.

My kitty needs a name and I need your help. I am looking for a name for her that has something to do with Minneapolis or Minnesota. A special thanks to my twitter followers who have suggested the names Loring, Hennepin, and Nicollet.

If you have any ideas for her name please comment on my post, tweet me @mplsgossipgirl, or post on Mplsgossipgirl’s Facebook wall.

You can visit the Animal Ark website to donate or look for new family member for your home: http://www.animalarkshelter.org/

A Wonderful Place to Take Your Pet- Lyndale Animal Hospital

Baby Nugget Header

Many of my loyal readers may have noticed that I haven’t been writing much lately. This is because I recently lost a part of my family. Baby Nugget, my cat sadly is no longer with us. I was lucky to have her in my life to brighten my days.

Baby Nugget became part of my family when she was adopted from the Animal Humane Society. She was perfect for my home because she was independent and like to snuggle. She was a senior cat and even though she was a little bit slower than a kitten she was still ready to come and snuggle whenever I came home. Her favorite show to watch was Maury.

Baby Nugget’s favorite meal was fresh salmon.  Her personality of of external indifference was merely a cover for her warm cuddly soft true colors.  She would accompany me to cat film festivals, picnics in the park, and keep me company during flu season.

When I first brought Nugget home we brought her in for a check up at the Lyndale Animal Hospital. We went in on a weekend and met Dr. Koppy. Who did a short check up and talked to me about her care.

Dr. Koppy was also very helpful in treating Baby Nugget during her end of life and helping our family make decisions regarding our pets care. I cannot thank all of the staff at Lyndale Animal Hospital for all their help during this hard time.

The care, compassion, and empathy the entire staff showed during my time of need was truly appreciated.  Whenever Baby Nugget was brought in the staff always treated her as family member, because that is what she was to me.

Walk for Animals- Animal Humane Society

Look at that face, how can you say no to a face like that? The Animal Humane Society is hosting the Walk for Animals on May 5th, 2012 in Golden Valley from 8:30-2:00. They are trying to raise money to support their programs.

I fully support the Animal Humane Society because I have used their resources on many occasions. I recently adopted a cat from the Golden Valley Humane Society and was amazed at how wonderful the process was. With the help of someone volunteering, we made the decision of what type of cat we wanted to bring into our family and we adopted our cat Nugget. Her favorite activity is sleeping.

This is my cat Callie. I call her Nugget.

The Animal Humane Society takes in animals that otherwise would have no where else to go an tries to find them new homes. My cat lost her home due to the death of her owner.  They provide housing, food, and any medical attention the animal might need.

Another important program that the Animal Humane Society funds is Classroom Visits.  They do outreach in schools teaching students what animals need, the cost of having an animal, how to take care of an animal, and the obligations you have when you get a pet. Along with many other topics that teachers can choose from.

Animal Humane Society offers spays and neutering services at a low cost with their kindest cut program to control the pet population. They also offer classes, boarding, and advice if you are having trouble with a current pet.

They would love for you to get involved by starting a team or registering as an individual to raise money for the walk and to just participate in this day with them. You can also make a donation if you cannot make it to the walk.
